Educators today are charged with preparing students with the digital literacy and 21st century skills needed for success in college, careers, and a global society. Toward this end, IDEAL-NM partners with and supports New Mexico schools in the implementation of innovative models of teaching and learning. These partnerships leverage technology to personalize learning opportunities for students.
Virtual School: In partnership with New Mexico schools, IDEAL-NM offers online courses taught by licensed New Mexico teachers. The courses are teacher-led, interactive and aligned with standards. Students across the state enroll in the IDEAL-NM virtual school for a variety of reasons including, enrichment, expanded access to electives, credit recovery and acceleration and to fulfill the distance learning graduation requirement.
Learning Management System (LMS): IDEAL-NM encourages the use of technology to offer more personalized and college- and career-ready educational programs. Through partnership with IDEAL-NM, all New Mexico schools have access to the statewide learning management system (LMS) at no cost. The LMS serves as a platform for the delivery of online and blended learning.
Professional Development: IDEAL-NM in collaboration with the other bureaus within the New Mexico Public Education Department offers professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators in various digital learning topics including online and blended learning instruction, quality online course design and 21st century teaching and leadership.
Course Content: All IDEAL-NM online courses are available to New Mexico schools. Courses are aligned with NM content standards and benchmarks and can be tailored for online, blended and supplemental delivery formats. In addition, IDEAL-NM is developing a comprehensive digital content and resource repository to facilitate cross- district course sharing.
